Let's Get Racing! Weeks 1 & 2 - 2018

Our change in weather is nothing short of a miracle, but we'll take it!  We have scheduled training Monday through Thursday this week and Racing will start May 7. Read on for the things you need to know before coming to the track on your first night:

First Practice is tomorrow, here's what you need:

  1. Racer's Licenses.
A temporary license was sent to you by Alberta Bicycle. The ladies in the motoshed need to see it and check you off the list in order for your rider to gain access to the track. We have more information about this further down in this newsletter.
  2. Volunteer Cheque for $300
This MUST be submitted before your racer can join us on the track.
  3. Proper BMX Bike
    No accessories (reflectors, chain guards)
Must have a number plate (available for purchase at concession)
  4. Proper Equipment
    Full Face helmet
    Pants & Long sleeves
    Gloves and close-toed shoes

For more details, please take a look at our welcome package, available on our website

Volunteer Positions

Riders will not be allowed on the track unless you have submitted your $300 post dated cheque against your volunteer commitment.

It takes a lot of manpower to run a practice or a race. There are a few positions that MUST be filled every time our racers go out onto our track. A volunteer binder will be on the motoshed window for you to sign up when you get there.  Positions are first come first serve and count towards your 10 credits. More information can be found in our welcome package.

Any questions can be directed to Lei at volunteers@stonyplainbmx.com

Licenses

Once a rider has had his license purchased via ABA on zone4, a receipt for payment will be emailed to you. Within one-week you should receive your temporary license in a PDF from ABA (These are also copied to the Track Operator). The physical licenses will be sent directly to the track for pick up. Please stop by the Moto shed to grab it at our first few practice dates.

If you purchased a General Membership License ($40) you will not receive a physical license and therefore no temporary license via email. Please bring your receipt (digital is fine) if it has been purchased in the last week.

If you have any questions regarding your license, please email Tyla at trackoperator@stonyplainbmx.coma

Concession

The Concession will be open all week (and looking for volunteers!), basic supplies only as we ramp up our inventory. Hot food WILL NOT be served this week but we will let you know as soon as we're ready to start cooking for you!

Pub Night Tickets

We will have tickets for sale at the Concession all week as well as our web store! Remember all race families are required to purchase two tickets.

Common Questions

How do I know I have the right bike for my racer?
If you're unsure, bring it by Monday night and our team bike tech, Mike Hook will take a look at it.

How do I know what practice to bring my racer to?
On Monday, it's "open" which means all kids on the track just having fun and getting back their race legs. On Tuesday the track is closed for Race Team only - racers come ready to work hard. On Wednesday, if you are new, come to Practice 1. If you are a returning athlete, come at the same time you came last year.

What do I do when I get to the track?
Help your racer get their gear on, make sure they've gone to the washroom and then look to see if there is a volunteer position available to be filled.

Join us at 6 at our parent meeting on Monday night and we will walk you through a race night.

Oh! And some time this week pick up some green painter's tape and a sharpie. Trust us, you'll need it ;)

Is it too late to register a racer for the season?

Nope! One of the great things about BMX is that the season runs as long as it possibly can.  This leaves a lot of time for racers to fall in love with the sport and then convince their friends to come race too. If you know anyone who may still want to race, just send them over to our website.
